Why is this man kissing this horse?
BTW – they are the top two elite athletes in the world of sport. Do you know who they are? Let me explain why you should care….
Most sports trophies are awarded on a yearly basis regardless of the calibre of the performance. The only trophy in the world of sports that requires the winning athletes to perform to a universal standard, each year before it is presented, is for a Triple Crown winner in Thoroughbred Racing.
This is so difficult to do that it has NOT been awarded for THIRTY-SEVEN years. On June 6th, 2015 in New York the Triple Crown was presented to Victor Espinoza and the horse American Pharoah, owned by the Zayat Stables and trained by Bob Baffert.
This photo is of Victor giving Pharoah a kiss of thanks for their amazing victory earlier that day.
(How cool is this – Victor has donated his share of the Saturdays’ race winnings to fight childhood cancer. Click here if you want to read more about that part of the story)
I have been waiting since 1978 to see another Triple Crown winner. I was beginning to think it would never happen again. Triple Crown races have been in existence since the early 1900’s. However the award had only been won 11 times in all those years, and 1978 was the last year it was presented.
Finally – American Pharoah has ended the thirty seven year drought. I couldn’t be happier for this grand achievement for the entire horse industry.
I could go on and on – but I won’t. If you want to know a bit more about ‘what it takes’ to win the Triple Crown – click right here for a brief explanation with a couple of videos.
Just in case you didn’t see The Belmont race on June 6th/15 – click here now or on the image below. You’ll be able to see a replay for the richest 2 1/2 minutes in the world of sport for 2015!!!
