Do you remember as a kid, going through a stage of sticking out your tongue?
I do – AND I remember being told that it was very rude and to NOT do it!!
Imagine my surprise when I read a health post saying that asking someone to stick out their tongue could help save their life. Turns out that if someone has a stroke, there is a critical 3 hour window to get them to a hospital to stop any permanent damage. n
So here’s the scoop for a quick test to use on yourself or someone you love, if you suspect they may have had a stroke:
A ‘sign’ of a stroke is this: Ask the person to ‘stick’ out his tongue
If the tongue is ‘crooked’, if it goes to one side or the other that is an indication of a stroke.

You’ll discover the ‘ S T R ‘ method as well for identifying a stroke. It’s a simple three step process:
S – stands for SMILE
T – stands for TALK
R – RAISE BOTH ARMS
S *Ask the individual to SMILE
T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A
SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. Chicken Soup)
R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
I hope you find these as interesting as I did. They are simple and easy to remember. I plan to keep a little reminder card in my wallet – with the key words so I’m confident helping someone or myself.
