When my folks say ‘wanna go for a walk?’, I get so excited.
But I have a different reason for being excited – my NOSE! Don’t get me wrong, I love the walking and exercise. And I know that my people need that workout to stay fit.
Recently, my vet made it all quite clear to my folks. He said – “Dogs don’t go for walks, they go for SMELLS.” He was absolutely right.
For one thing, our noses possess up to 300 million olfactory receptors, compared to about six million in humans. And the part of a dog’s brain that’s devoted to analyzing smells is, proportionally speaking, 40 times greater than humans.
Humans have no idea what dogs can do with our noses. Our noses are the best part of our bodies. They make us very smart indeed.
This is great news. Cause there’s so much more we could teach humans, if they would only listen to us.
Here’s a link about that cool research It’s a quick read! You can also click on the photo of the dog’s nose.
My human also wrote an interesting blog a while ago about many wonderful things that dogs are doing to help humans in their life. Click right here to read it: “Dogs – A Best Bet For A Cancer Cure?”. Tons of cool info in this piece.
Do you have an amazing, funny or brilliant story about dogs and their noses? We’d love to hear them. Just go to the comments section below. I’ll share one of mine.
