As a dog, there are times I wish I could read a book to pass the time when Roger and Lianne are away from the house.
Recently I thought they found a solution. I was watching over Lianne ‘s shoulder when she was researching good newsletter materials. There was a really cool story and video about children who read to dogs. How awesome is that?
But then I realized that the dogs in the videos were not living in a home – they were in an animal shelter. Turns out these poor dogs have had a really rough time in life (lucky me – that my humans treat me so well). Some really smart people came up with a great idea to help these dogs.
The Missouri Humane Society’s Shelter Buddies Reading Program pairs kids aged 6 to 15 with scared and traumatized dogs to prepare them for adoption. YUP, the kids help the dogs and the dogs help the kids improve their reading skills too. It’s a total ‘thumbs up’ for this terrific program.
Click here for photos, a short video and story about the program. Guaranteed to make you smile. It’s kids and dogs – who wouldn’t smile???
What do you think of this idea?? Let’s hear your feedback. Who would like to get a program like this going in their community?? Please share (or WOOF) your thoughts in the comments below.
