Anyone who know me, knows that I’m a pretty staight-shooting woman. I don’t hold back on what I believe or think. I will share my view with just about anyone (who is interested in listening). I suspect that the link I am going to share may bring out folks who sit in two different camps.
As a definite animal lover, I do not believe in the declawing of cats. Although we never had a cat in our house while I was growing up (my mother was definitely cat aversive) I came to love them through a cat-loving friend that I met after graduating from university. A few years later I ‘rescued’ my first kitten (from the side of the highway on the way home from the stable).
Many years later, I have paid the price of loving cats.
“My sofa has some scratches, so what? I can still sit in it! The day I put vanity for a piece of furniture above other things is the day I should have my head examined.” (Quote from “About the Ethics of Declawing a Cat by Brenda N “)
I will not give up on having cats in my life nor will I declaw them – they are just too cool!
Click the link below written by Dr. Ryan Lleara of Kingston, Ontario. This is a professional who is telling it like it is. I didn’t realize that it is actually illegal to do this in many countries of the world, including the UK, where it’s considered animal cruelty.
Another quote by Brenda N…
“If you are the type of person who truly values the condition of your sofa more than your cat’s mental and physical health.. then do not get a cat.”

By the way – if you are a true cat lover you will enjoy the episode called “The Lion in Your Living Room” from the Nature of Things on CBC TV. Click here to see ‘the cat’s meow’.
