How to be a Savvy Canadian

Are you proud to be a Canadian? I know I am!

I believe that our country is being progressive, intelligent and daring with the October 17th date of marijuana legalization in our country.

As responsible citizens we must educate ourselves about this substance called cannabis, marijuana, hemp, weed, etc., etc. The truth is: hemp, marijuana, and cannabis are different.  We need to learn about the benefits of legalization in Canada.  We also need to understand where problems and misinformation may exist.

According to my research we are the second country in the world (Uruguay was the first in 2013) to fully legalize marijuana for recreational use too.  Prior to this, it has been legal for medical use by obtaining a medical licence. But the ‘recreational’ aspect is the big difference in ‘full legalization’.

As of June 28/18, thirty US states have legalized medical marijuana and nine have made recreational marijuana legal as well. However the use, sale, and possession of all forms of cannabis in the United States is illegal.

I’d like to offer some information to help you in this learning process.  The first is a video by Dr. Zachary Walsh from the University of British Columbia.  It’s a TED Talk he gave in 2014 in Penticton, BC.   Titled ‘Making Peace With Cannabis’,  it’s full of great info and presented in a easy to understand way.

This second piece of information can be found on newstands.

I got mine two weeks ago at the local Metro grocery store.  This is the second edition I’ve bought in the last year.  Time Magazine does update these editions to stay current with the ongoing changes in the new economy of legalized marijuana.

I recommend it highly.  Great presentation and lots of good photography too.

“HOT OFF THE PRESS”

A POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT FOR OUR BELOVED PETS…..

Canadian pets are a few steps closer to getting their paws on cannabis based medical treatments in Canada. as more cannabis companies research marijuana’s efficacy for companion animals.

Canopy Growth Corporation is pleased to announce that approval has been received from the Veterinary Drug Directorate of Health Canada to research the effectiveness of cannabidiol (“CBD”) to treat anxiety in certain animals. The research will be conducted by Canopy Animal Health (“CAH”), a division of Canopy Health which focuses on developing cannabis-based healthcare products for companion animals.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and reactions to the video above and the news from Canopy Growth.  Do you look forward to the benefits of legalizing marijuana?  Or are you fearful and if so – what are your concerns?  I look forward to hearing from all of you in the comment section below.
