Here’s a couple of great reasons why we use a black background in the studio for portraits.
We love to make our subjects really “pop” in the final image. A black background can make colours and skin tone almost “jump off the print” – but they have to be properly lit. You’ll notice in the images below that there is a highlight line around the edges of their clothing and a nice shine on their hair to separate them from the black background.
Once the portraits are taken, we use some “post-production magic” to blend and combine images into eye-catching final portraits.
In the example above, each girl was photographed separately in the studio. We then picked the best images of each without having to find ones where they both looked good together. Each girl’s individual personality comes shining through. Even though they were photographed separately, we could combine them into one image that makes them look like they were together (centre image), plus we could add them each singly to create a dynamic composite panoramic presentation.
Our Black is Back 33rd Anniversary Portrait Special runs from Saturday Nov 10 to Saturday Nov 17 with guaranteed Christmas delivery of your final portraits.
