When a House is a “Moving Experience”

House-moveI’ve had lots of crazy assignments with the commercial photography that I do. This one ranks right up there! I shot a “video documentary” last week for a company that makes owning a house a truly “moving experience”.

Yep! This house moved from east end Ottawa to Carleton Place in just a few hours. The documentary isn’t complete until the house is finally resting on it’s new foundation, but here’s a mini version for you that condenses a five hour trip to a minute and a half.

Peter and Allison Adamovitz of Carleton Park Avenue Homes have started a very interesting business. They find well-constructed homes that owners want to demolish in order to free up the lot for a new building. But instead of tearing down the house, Peter arranges to have it moved to a new location. Once it’s placed on a new foundation, he refurbishes the house and then sells it. It’s kind of a house flip on steroids.

The house movers were amazing. They brought the house down streets I never thought they’d fit and around corners in busy intersections in Ottawa without a hitch. Very entertaining for the neighbours too!
