This Shindig blew my mind – AND – no “whacky tobacky” consumed

If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I would never have believed it.

I never thought I’d ever see over 6000 people attend an event in Smiths Falls.

The Tweed Shindig 2018 was the BIG EVENT.  It was sold out (which meant 5000 tickets sold and 1000 tickets given to Smiths Falls residents).   Lots of kids there too and they got free admission.  So the numbers tallied to well over 6000.  There were shuttle buses from Ottawa, Kanata and Carleton Place bringing visitors from all over the Ottawa Valley.

There were terrific musical performers playing all afternoon and evening.  The absolute highlight was the arrival of Snoop Dogg, the American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer.  Rain began to fall while he wowed the crowd.  Tweed staff quickly handed out free rain ponchos to anyone in need.  YUP – Tweed is a totally classy company.

Tweed is an amazing medical/recreational marijuana/cannabis company that purchased the former Hershey Chocolate facility in 2014. It has grown in leaps and bounds and will be key to the future rise and economic growth of Smiths Falls.  Canopy Growth Corporation is the parent company to Tweed and additional sister companies.

The Tweed campus has a brilliant visitor information center with a self-directed interactive approach. You’ll also have a ‘look and learn’ experience about the marijuana/cannabis production stages in a self directed tour.  As a nod to the building’s heritage, a recent partnership was forged with the award winning Hummingbird Chocolate company.  So you will also have the opportunity to see how chocolate is produced.  You can finish off your visit in the boutique style Tweed gift shop.

You’ll get a real feel for Tweed’s mission and CEO Bruce Linton by watching this City News video tour of Tweed just before the Visitor Information Center was opened on Shindig day.

Tweed is a totally professional, community oriented and dynamic company that will be a valuable resource to help Canadians understand and learn about the value of marijuana for medical purposes.  It also wants to educate folks on the responsible use of recreational marijuana/cannabis.  To that end they have partnered with MADD Canada.

If you’re fortunate to live close by – plan a drive to check out Tweed.   Otherwise – schedule a day trip if you’re farther afield in Eastern Ontario or Western Quebec.   If you’re even more distant but plan to vacation in the area – make sure a visit to Tweed is on your agenda

If your interest has been piqued by this blog, here are a couple of other resources to check out about other sister operations of Tweed.
