Roger is a WINNER again!

For a couple of years now, Roger has been a member of the NOBSPhotoSuccess group. It’s a world-wide organization of photographers who share ideas, techniques, problems and solutions and general thoughts on photography and related topics.

Roger has judged a couple of their photo competitions and has dabbled a bit by entering the Photo Editing Challenge. They supply an image and you can do whatever you want to it. Once your edits are complete, the new image is uploaded and then members get to vote for their favourite.

We just found out that Roger won last month’s Editing Challenge. Here’s the original image they supplied and Roger’s comments:

First, it needed to be perked up a bit. After adjusting the tones and brightness, I carefully masked out the background, keeping only the men and young boy and their shadows. The pavement kinda reminded me of an airport runway, so I searched for an image of an airplane taking off – and found the perfect one.

The strong lighting on the plane was a perfect match for the strong lighting on the subjects. I needed to remove the shadow of the plane on the runway because it was coming from the wrong direction considering the shadows of the guys. After that was retouched, I blended the two images, did some sizing and cropping and came up with the final image to enter. Here’s the end result:

It’s kinda fun to let your imagination “take off” with an idea.
