Inspirational Keynote to Perth Cancer Society

logo_ccsWith April being Cancer Month, it reminds us that this is a disease that touches almost everyone in some way. Many of us have family members, friends or co-workers that have been directly affected by cancer. But it’s not often we get to hear what dealing with cancer is like from the patient’s perspective.

Roger recently had the opportunity to video Hilary Drummond’s keynote speech to the annual meeting of the Canadian Cancer Society in Perth.

Hilary has been dealing with cancer for the past several years and her story is quite an inspiration. We both follow Hilary’s Dad, Dr. Alan Drummond, through Facebook. His posts range all over the place, from wine to Winston Churchill, as well as what’s happening with Hilary. It was through Facebook that we found out she was speaking and thought it would be great for Hilary and her family to have a record of her talk. It turned out that Alan couldn’t be there that night (he was teaching a wine appreciation class at Algonquin College) so it was doubly great that we could be there for him.

With Hilary’s permission we uploaded the speech to our Youtube channel and shared the link with her. Over the last couple of weeks there have been almost 1200 views and counting. Grab a coffee or tea and sit down for 15 minutes while Hilary takes you through her cancer experience. Click the video below

As an aside, we have photographed the Drummond family many times over the years. As you may or may not know, Alan is a very busy MD, specializing in Emergency Room medicine as well has his busy family practice. Our first session was with their triplets when they were just toddlers. Between weather and Alan’s ER calls, we must have rescheduled the session four or five times before getting it done late in the fall. It still hangs proudly in their home today.
