Farming On The Web – Miller’s Bay Farm

Way back in the spring of 2011, Shannon & Robert Miller (well…mainly Shannon) started talking to us about getting them started on a website and some internet marketing. Their goal (and ours) was for them to have a nice little, easy to maintain and update, website for their Market Garden Farm in Rideau Ferry.

The Millers have been clients of our portrait services for many years. Shannon was the first to admit that she knew very little about website, blogs, email marketing or social media. However, she was confident that we would be able to lead them down the path to success.

Their website served them well for the past 7 years. Their “Farm Fresh Alerts” newsletter went from zero to almost 900 subscribers. Subscribers get the latest information on when strawberries, corn and all of the other yummy veggies are ready on the stand.

The first few newsletters were sent out by us, but Shannon soon became comfortable and now very adept at writing engaging copy for her newsletter – copy that reflects their style and sense of fun and humour.

As is our goal with all of our web clients, we turned over more and more of their website updates, email marketing and social media to Shannon and she’s done a fantastic job with all of them.

That being said, we, and the Millers, both realized that the website needed a major facelift to better reflect the farm and what people expect to see on their computers, tablets and smartphones. After several weeks of planning, copy writing by Shannon, and our design and WordPress skills, the new website has been released for all to see. (Click the photo to visit their NEW website)

Right now the site is promoting Miller’s Bay Farm’s hugely successful “Bountiful Baskets” program.

We’ve been enjoying our 15 weekly baskets full of fresh produce since it’s inception in 2013. Registration is now open on-line, with pick-up locations in Smiths Falls, Perth and at the farm in Rideau Ferry.

Once Basket registration is full, the site will switch to Strawberries, keeping pickers (and eaters) posted about the start of the season and picking conditions.

Throughout the summer and fall the site will show “What’s On The Stand” as well as information about the “Pick Your Own Pumpkin Patch” just in time for Halloween.

We love working with small businesses to help them with their marketing and websites. If you’ve been thinking “We need a website” or “Yikes – our website is way out of date” – then give us a call and we can get together to plan a new website or upgrade your old one.

  1. Thank you Roger & Lianne for taking our website experience from ‘daunting to delightful’ in a very short period of time!!
We couldn’t have done it (…or had nearly as much fun in the process…) without you. 🙂
