CWECT Project – First YAC Meeting at Studio

Recently we (and Morgan, our official ‘Goldendoodle Greeter’) enthusiastically welcomed three terrific teenagers and a Youth Worker from Children’s Aid at the studio to work with us on an upcoming video project.  These teens are representatives of the Youth Advisory Committee of the “Crown Ward Education Championship Team” or “CWECT’ for short.

CWECT coverJust what is that you might ask –  we certainly did when they contacted us about taking on the project.  Here’s the scoop:  this Team is a community partnership designed to enable better education, training and employment opportunities for all children and youth in the care of Children’s Aid Societies.  Their slogan is  “Do, Dream, Dare”.

To date, our experience with youth from the Children’s Aid has been to create individual videos for children who are looking for their ‘Forever Family’.  However this is the first time that we will be working with youth in a collaborative process.  Quite exciting!!

We began our session with the teens by going through a “mind-mapping process” with them to generate ideas.  Lots of energy flowed as we  listened to their stories and insights.  Their goal is to connect with a varied audience of other youth, foster parents /guardians, CAS workers, and educators.

The second step of our plan was to do a ‘storyboard’ with the teens to map out the blueprint for the video – but our discussions took us down another path.  Instead of one video, they decided we will create several smaller ones so that the messages can be delivered in an appropriate style for the varied ‘audiences’ that they want to reach.

In mid-September we’ll begin the actual filming for the project.  We have a deadline of early November for the unveiling of some of the videos for a big Conference.  We’ll keep you up to date on the project and when model releases are signed – we can put some youthful ‘faces’ to the story of this inspiring project.   Stay tuned!!
