“No Short Cuts” for this rising star Olympian

How cool is it that when I train and ride my horse,  I am often training alongside Olympian Melanie McCann from Ottawa.   Now don’t get me wrong – I am no Olympic hopeful!!

However, Melanie is a medal contender for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.  She recently competed at a World Cup event in Hungary and finished fifth.  WOO HOO!!

Her sport is the modern pentathlon which includes five events – fencing, 200 m freestyle swimming, show jumping and a final combined event of pistol shooting and a 3200 m cross-country run.

Melanie selected Jeff McKessock owner of Westar Farms, as her riding coach to reach her Olympic medal dream.  Jeff has been my riding instructor for many, many, many years  (Note to self – I obviously know quality equestrian instruction when I see it).

Check out the very short video below to see how Melanie is taking ‘no short cuts’ to reach her Olympic goal.  The video is very dynamic and gives a quick and powerful feel for the training process.  Enjoy!
